Anneli Sauli, a legendary Finnish movie star, was a brave woman who was labelled a sex symbol at a young age. This became a lifelong curse - and a gift. She is a woman who broke out of the mould and forged her own path, regardless of her surroundings.

Director Saara Cantell: "Anneli Sauli's life was a succession of surprises and startling twists and turns that no one would believe if they made it into a feature film." So Saara made a fascinating documentary about her friend. The film opens up unique moments in Anneli Sauli's memories through conversations and captivating films. The women engaged in conversations about Anneli Sauli's work, life, and of course, her experiences with men.

In the film her past and present are woven to become one lifelong adventure: The nostalgia of the golden age of Finnish film industry, her German films as Ann Savo, and the conversations between these two close friends reveal a young girl from a poor background conquering the screen, but at a high price. Stardom also means loneliness. On the other hand, it allows her to go to Germany when Finnish industry shuts down. The return to Finland from Germany is a tough one: there is no work for the former star, and the mother of a small child has to go to Sweden for construction work.

The truths of the 1950s and 1960s about "a woman's place" seem comical and even infuriating today. And at times, sadly familiar. Before the Me too -movement, the film world was not a safe place even for a star actress. Anneli Sauli's life had all the ingredients for tragedy, but she never agreed to play the role of a victim. Anneli's story is at once touching and inspiring.
